Primary & Partner Organizations: Population Matters

The International Conference on Population and Development in 1994 affirmed that the full range of sexual and reproductive health and rights, including access to and freedom to use family planning, is fundamental to human rights, gender equality and the wellbeing and dignity of women and girls. Its benefits also have a central role to play in achieving Sustainable Development Goals relating to economic and human development. Fulfilling those rights also offers potentially significant benefits in addressing, and improving resilience to, environmental challenges and in promoting environmental justice.Increased understanding of these relationships among the SRHR and environmental communities and policymakers should lead to new opportunities to advance progress towards multiple SDGs and promote SRHR. If we are to adopt this approach, however, how can we ensure rights-based and woman-centred principles remain at its core? This panel discussion will examine these issues within the context of the ICPD Programme of Action and the environmental challenges that have emerged since 1994.Speakers:Sanghamitra Singh, population Foundation of IndiaDr Joan Castro, PATH Foundation PhilippinesHannah Evans, Population Connection
