In recent years, the family planning field has seen an increasing number of RLAs that focus on specific technical areas at the global, country and project level. This panel discussion provides an opportunity to pause and reflect on RLA successes, challenges, and suggestions for improvement in a fire-side chat with four speakers offering unique perspectives. Speakers will include representatives from two projects (one supporting global RLAs and one supporting country RLAs), a Ministry of Health representative, and a USAID representative. Through a moderated discussion, we will explore a variety of topics including: RLA development process, audiences and stakeholders, ownership and implementation, significance and contributions to FP programs and policies, sustainability, and measures of success. Specific discussion questions may include: How effective are RLAs at defining research gaps and coordinating stakeholders to answer them? How are they moving the field forward? What policy-level impact can they have? Does the process of developing or implementing RLAs have other outcomes (intended or otherwise)? Can RLAs lead to increased investment in FP and other health areas? How can this approach be more sustainable?
